EU Banking regulator reveals it does not have the capacity to regulate crypto.

July 27, 2022

Chair of the European Banking Authority, José Manuel Campa, is concerned over how it will enforce new crypto regulations.

José Manuel cited hiring specialized staff as a “major concern” for enforcing crypto regulations.

New crypto rules are expected to take effect by 2025 in European countries.

European Union had recently finalized its Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) legislation focusing on stablecoins.

EU banking regulator said that in three years crypto may have "moved and transformed into other uses that I cannot anticipate."

Campa further noted that their task is to make sure that the risk they have identified is properly managed, or else they will have to live with consequences.

The banking regulator also acknowledged that the crypto industry is very dynamic and it is hard to predict what it would be like in three years.
