South Korea government will look into late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon’s involvement in Virgil Griffith’s attempt to help North Korea evade sanctions using crypto.

Virgil Griffith had pleaded guilty earlier this year and was sentenced to more than five years in prison for helping North Korea evade US sanctions.

The former Ethereum developer had presented a cryptocurrency conference in Pyongyang in 2019 despite authorities’s warnings against it.

Former Seoul mayor was mentioned in emails between Griffith and Erica Kang, the founder of blockchain community-building team KryptoSeoul.

According to the Korea Herald report, the former mayor had shown interest in building a cryptocurrency network with North Korea.

According to the report, KryptoSeoul received  18 million won ($12,600) for helping the city government hold a  three-day event.
