Elon Musk Faces Backlash For Charging $8 For Blue Tick

Elon Musk announced that Twitter users will have to pay $8 a month to keep their blue check marks. However, Indian users didn’t welcome the decision enthusiastically.

A Twitter poll asking if users are willing to pay $8 (640 rupees) per month for their blue checks, received 75% votes in negative.

Though Elon Musk has clarified that prices will be adjusted differently for different countries.

Musk has received backlash from journalists and activists for his decision to charge for blue check marks.

In his tweets, Musk characterized the current system for who gets a check mark as exclusionary and called it "bullshit."

Currently, Twitter gives blue checks to accounts for free after the company determines the user is "authentic, notable and active."

Elon Musk completed the $44 billion buyout last week, and became the sole director of the company.
