Twitter has reportedly initiated the groundwork to introduce payment tools for the microblogging site.
Reports said that Musk has applied for regulatory licenses to introduce payments across the platform, which will potentially include Bitcoin and crypto.
Twitter boss Elon Musk has reportedly instructed his developers to build the platform’s payments system keeping in mind the crypto payments.
According to the reports, Twitter, which generates around $15 million annually from payment tools like tipping and shopping, could generate as much as $1.3 billion by 2028.
In September 2021, Twitter had partnered with the payments company Strike to launch a Bitcoin tipping feature just two months before crypto enthusiast and former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stepped down.
Adding crypto payment would play an important role to achieve Musk’s long-term vision of making Twitter a super app like WeChat, which includes everything from messaging to shopping to PayPal-like features.
Musk described himself as a Bitcoin supporter during a session at Clubhouse. In February 2021, he had shared his plan to accept crypto payments for his automotive company Tesla.
