Elon Must, CEO of Twitter tweeted this morning about the potential use of Artificial Intelligence on Twitter.
Speculating for the future, he shared about the use of AI to detect & highlight manipulation of public opinion on Twitter.
“In the months ahead,” Mr Musk said, “we will use AI to detect & highlight manipulation of public opinion on this platform. Let’s see what the psy ops cat drags in…”
Twitter tends to be a big part of the mainstream media’s coverage of politics to sports to entertainment, its influence on public opinion does matter.
According to Pew Research (2022), roughly one-third of U.S. adult Twitter users see news articles about political or social issues almost every time they use the site.
Citing an Oxford University research in 2019, New York Times reported that 70 countries around the world have had disinformation campaigns championed by governments deploying social media.
Deploying AI to detect and highlight manipulation could be a major move at curbing the use of social media for misinformation.
