American news organizations are straight up refusing to pay for getting verified on Twitter.
Elon Musk had earlier announced that legacy check marks will not be visible from April.
In order to retain blue checkmarks, individuals and organizations will have to subscribe to Twitter Blue.
The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed, POLITICO, and Vox have all denied paying up for Twitter Blue.
Blue checkmarks on Twitter and other social media platforms represent the authenticity of a particular account.
Elon Musk is trying to monetize the blue checkmarks to increase Twitter revenue and get rid of AI bots.
Twitter chief had earlier suggested that only Tweets from blue check marks' accounts will show in the “For You” section, but later withdrew this decision.
