Biden Admin To Regulate AI Tools Like ChatGPT

The Biden administration has officially begun examining whether checks need to be placed on artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT.

The Commerce Department on Tuesday put out a formal public request for comment on what it called accountability measures.

Opening a discussion on whether potentially risky new AI models should go through a certification process before they are released.

Responding to a reporter about whether the technology is dangerous, Mr. Biden said: “It remains to be seen. It could be.”

The advisory group also includes representatives of Microsoft and Google, even OpenAI says that AI is subject to rigorous safety evaluations.

Eric Schmidt, the former Google chief executive is chairing a congressional commission on the national-security implications of AI.

Rep. Nancy Mace while discussing AI’s risks and benefits, added: “Everything I just said in my opening statement was, you guessed it, written by ChatGPT.”
