EU Lawmakers Look To Regulate Advance AI

April 17, 2023

As per Wall Street Journal report, European lawmakers are looking to give regulators new powers to govern AI tech like ChatGPT.

A group of EU lawmakers will submit an open letter stating how the space requires a novel set of rules customized to powerful, general-purpose AI tools.

“With the rapid evolution of powerful AI, we see the need for significant political attention,” lawmakers wrote in the letter.

Lawmakers aim to steer the development of very powerful artificial intelligence in a direction that is human-centric, safe and trustworthy through this bill.

Regulators will meet this week to discuss the proposals and decide on a common position. The same will then be voted by the Parliament in May.

Earlier, Elon Musk and other experts signed an open letter seeking a halt on advanced AI for some time.

Goldman Sachs’ analyst predicted three million jobs will be replaced by AI in the coming time.
