Crypto Market Update August 19: ETH Tests Resistance, Solana Nears Multi-Week Highs as PUMP Leads Gains
Highlights
- The crypto market trades in the green today, with PUMP leading gains.
- Ethereum is testing resistance at $1,918 as inflows to ETH ETFs sustain gains.
- Solana is also on the verge of closing above $77 for the first time since June.
The crypto market is up slightly today, August 19, ahead of President Trump’s meeting with crypto executives. Ethereum (ETH) price has gained to test the resistance at $1,918, while Solana (SOL) could close at its highest price since July 23 if buying pressure remains high. PumpFun (PUMP) is once again outperforming the market, with the price rising by 7% to trade at $0.029 at the time of writing.
What is Driving the Crypto Market Today?
The crypto market is rising today because of improving market sentiment. The Fear and Greed Index has risen from 27 to 41 at the time of writing, suggesting that the fear that gripped traders early this month is fading.

The improving sentiment comes as the total crypto market cap rises from $2.16 trillion on August 1 to $2.2 trillion.
If the fear and greed index continues to rise and shifts from fear to neutral, it could support more gains for Bitcoin (BTC) and altcoins as the buyers who were sitting on the sidelines fearing steeper losses come back.
The price of Bitcoin is also holding the support at $64,000 due to rising demand for BTC ETFs that have seen two straight days of inflows per SoSoValue data. The ETF inflows have already reached $486 million this week.
Ethereum ETFs have also seen $102 million in inflows since August 17, while XRP ETFs have also reached $5.8 million, as Ripple’s adoption by institutions fuels demand.

The volatility in the crypto market will likely rise later today as President Trump meets crypto executives including those from Coinbase and Ripple.
Today’s meeting could focus on the CLARITY Act bill that has stalled, with CoinGape prediction markets showing that there is only a 21% chance that the crypto bill will pass in 2026.

The July FOMC minutes that are coming out today will also move crypto prices, with a drop being likely if the minutes show that Fed officials are leaning hawkish. However, a dovish overview could push the crypto market up as the odds of the Fed hiking rates this year drop.

Crypto Liquidations Top $193M as Long Positions Rise
Data from CoinGlass shows that the total liquidations across the crypto market have topped $193 million today, with short liquidations leading at $115 million, while long liquidations have topped $78 million.

The total open interest has also dropped from the recent two-month high of $122 million to $120 million at the time of writing. Meanwhile, the total volumes across the crypto market remain elevated at $151 billion.
Long buying volumes are also more than short selling volumes today. CoinGlass data shows that long volumes have reached $18.56 billion, with this being higher than the $16.87 billion in short selling volumes.
Ethereum Price Technical Outlook Today
The price of Ethereum has failed to close above the resistance at $1,918 since July 29. The price was trading above this resistance at the time of writing, with the move coming after three straight days of buyers outpacing sellers per the one-day chart.
If Ethereum closes above $1,918 for three straight days, the price could target the psychological resistance of $2,000. The RSI reading of 58 shows that the momentum is favoring bulls, making the uptrend likely to continue. The RSI is also making a higher high, which also supports a bullish Ethereum long-term outlook.

However, if ETH fails to close above this resistance as it has done for the last three weeks, the price could drop to find support at $1,880.
Solana and PUMP Technical Outlook
Solana price is up by 1.6% today, August 19, to trade at $77 at the time of writing. If SOL holds these gains through the day and extends the uptrend, it will mark the first time the price has closed above $77 since July 23.
A recent CoinGape Solana price analysis observed that $77 also serves as the resistance of a cup and handle pattern, and if Solana closes above it, the price could reach $83.
Data from CoinGlass also shows that futures trading activity around Solana is rising after the open interest reached $5.2 billion for the first time since mid-July.

PUMP is one of the biggest gainers in the crypto market today, as the price rises by 7% to trade at $0.0029. The gains come amid a surge in spot trading activity, with data from CoinMarketCap showing that 24-hour trading volumes for PUMP are up by 30% to $116 million.
PUMP price needs to defend the support at $0.0029 to confirm a sustained uptrend. Such a move could push the price to the 123.6% Fib of $0.0032.
