In "Crypto King" case, Trustee's investigation expands

A 23-year-old Canadian who calls himself the "Crypto King" was arrested twice in last two months for failing to comply with the bankruptcy proceeding against him and his company.

Since CBC Toronto's investigation published last month, the number of investors in bankruptcy proceeding increased from 29 claiming $13 million to nearly 120 creditors claiming $25 million.

According to reports from trustee Grant Thornton Ltd., arrest warrant was issued after he failed to surrender his cell phone and other devices as ordered.

The report also shows that the scope of the bankruptcy investigation has been expanded to include the recovery of assets from Pleterski's family and others.

The assets include a Porsche, a Bentley and other luxury cars discovered by the trustees were paid with investors' money by Pleterski.

According to the trustee's reports, Pleterski also appears to have been pursuing ownership of the Burlington, Ont., mansion which he was renting for $45,000 a month.

Investors until November 22 can prove how much they owe in bankruptcy proceedings.
