Miss El Salvador Alejandra Guajardo surprised everyone wearing Bitcoin-themed costume in the pageant’s National Costume Show.
The costume designer Francisco Guerrero carried a staff with the Bitcoin logo on top and a colón – one of the country’s previously accepted currencies – decorated with cocoa beans on his back.
“This look represents El Salvador’s history of currency,” said the pageant announcer.
The costume has been designed to showcase the future of the leading cryptocurrency in El Salvador.
It is the Bitcoin's maiden entry into the country's biggest costume show.
In 2021, El Salvador became the first country in the world to use Bitcoin as legal tender
The move was met with widespread criticism and concern from the global community, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
