A US judge has ordered the three co-founders of BitMEX to pay $30 million.
For operating an illegal cryptocurrency derivatives platform and violating money-laundering rules.
Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed have been asked to pay $10 million each.
The co-founders were operating BitMEX illegally through transactions in the US while conducting a significant portion of the business overseas.
According to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), BitMex co-founders violated aspects of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC regulations from 2014 to 2020.
In August 2021, BitMex paid $100 million to the CFTC as a fine.
The CFTC is requesting the public to cross-check the registration of the company before making any investment.
