California: Law Approved Allowing Issuance of Birth, Death, and Marriage Records on Blockchain.

California residents will soon have the option of a blockchain-based delivery of their vital records, such as birth, death, and marriage.

This is true after the State approved a landmark law establishing the technology as an integral part of state recordkeeping.

On Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom gave the nod to a cryptocurrency proposal requiring county records offices to allow for the usage of blockchain technology and verifiable credentials.

If the bill is converted into regulation, it would require digital asset exchanges and other crypto companies to obtain a license to operate in the state.

The technology would be established to distribute birth, death, and marriage records, allowing PDFs to be sent immediately instead of a typical 10-day postal delivery.

The bill represents a test of blockchain in an essential governmental function in California which is believed to be the most populous State in the US.

This week, Newsom vetoed a crypto licensing and regulation bill which was seen as a possible West Coast version of New York's BitLicense
