April 10, 2023

China's payment & clearing industry association recently warned against using intelligence tools like ChatGPT due to risks like cross-border data leaks.

"Payment industry staff must comply with laws and rules when using tools such as ChatGPT, and should not upload confidential information related to the country and the finance industry," Payment Association said.

Though the AI tool is off-limits to users in China, but it’s not as challenging to find a way around it through virtual private networks, foreign phone numbers, etc.

Multiple firms have also been seen trying to inculcate this technology into their products, because of the increasing interest of youth in this new tech.

Italy has also banned the chatbot till further notice and launched a probe over suspected breaches of privacy rules.

The excitement in China over the chatbot has led to a visible shift in tech, media, and telecom (TMT) shares and increasing concerns among analysts.

A Chinese state media outlet named Economic Daily has also urged regulators to increase supervision and crackdown on speculation in the sector.
