New York AG sues Trump for large-scale business fraud
September 22, 2022
The lawsuit, filed in New York state court in Manhattan, accused the Trump Organization of misconduct in preparing its financial statements for 2011-2021.
Attorney General Letitia James said her office had found more than 200 instances of property misvaluations, 23 of which were "grossly and fraudulently inflated."
The lawsuit also seeks to ban Trump and the Trump Organization from completing commercial real estate deals in New York for 5 years.
In addition, it asked to repay all of their fraudulent $250 million monetary gains.
On the contrary, Trump has denounced the lawsuit, calling it "another witch hunt" and specifically attacking Attorney General James, a Democrat.
Alina Habba, Trump lawyer said James' lawsuit " “is neither focused on the facts nor the law — rather, it is solely focused on advancing the attorney general’s political agenda.”
James claimed Trump's own apartment in New York's Trump Tower was 30,000 square feet, when it was actually 10,996 square feet.
