Elon Musk Justifies The 2FA Change

Recently, Twitter announced that non-blue tick users cannot access a major security feature.

Elon Musk responded to the same and tweeted saying that the use of free authentication apps for 2FA will remain free.

He further justified it by saying that they are much more secure than SMS.

A Twitter user quote retweeted the tweet about 2AF and wrote, rule 1 is to never charge for something that was previously free.

To this Elon Musk detailed that Twitter is getting scammed by phone companies for $60M/year of fake 2FA SMS messages.

It is to be noted that after March 20, 2023, Twitter will no longer permit the non-Twitter Blue user to use text messages as a 2FA method.
