Elon Musk talks further about Twitter monetization: Details

April 14, 2023

Twitter is now allowing its users to offer their followers subscriptions for any content "from long-form text to hours-long video.”

As per Elon Musk’s recent tweet, Twitter won't keep any of the money users make from subscriptions for the first 12 months.

It means that the users will be able to keep at least 70% of what they make after settling the app store fees. However, no further details have been revealed about this plan.

After the first year, the app store charges will drop to 15% and Twitter will levy a small amount on top of that, depending on volume.

Musk also mentioned that the platform’s main focus currently is to maximize creator prosperity and assist with their promotion.

To make the monetization plan work, Twitter is going head-to-head with the newsletter company, Substack, which has similar money-making options.

This move from Twitter is a way to woo more content creators to the platform and retain the ones who are already there.
