EU Ready For Digital Currency Legislation

November 7, 2022

The European Union Commission will soon come out with a legislation  on adoption of digital currency

Timely adoption of digital currency legislation would give legal assurance to all stakeholders to prepare for its possible introduction, the European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said in a video statement.

According to her, the legislation will also send a strong signal of political support.

“I'm very much looking forward to the legislative proposal for establishing a digital Euro, which the Commission will propose shortly,” she added.

The European Central Bank's digital euro project is centered around making central bank money digitally available.

The European Council had  approved the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation in October 2022,

The EU Commission is currently investigating the development of the digital euro.
