Edward Snowden revealed that he is John Dobbertin - the pseudonymous participant in Zcash's trusted setup process.

The US whistleblower was the sixth person who participated in an elaborate ceremony back in 2016 that led to the creation of privacy-centric cryptocurrency Zcash.

CoinCenter researcher Peter Van Valkenburgh, and bitcoin core developer, Peter Todd were other participants in the ceremony.

In the interview, Snowden said that when we talk about the properties of cryptocurrencies we make sure it's a fair ledger, but we overlook the need for a private ledger.

Zooko Wilcox, CEO of the Electric Coin Company said that he recruited people he knew he could trust and that’s why he reached out to Edward Snowden.

Edward Snowden is known for leaking documents that revealed how the CIA and the US government spies on its own citizens.

Currently taking refuge in Russia, Snowden continues to actively advocate for online privacy.
