The Rise and Fall of The Cryptoqueen: A High-Stakes Drama

German broadcasters ZDF and ZDFneo are teaming up with Pyjama Pictures to develop a high-end series about Ruja Ignatova, aka Cryptoqueen.
Ignatova gained notoriety in 2014 with the launch of OneCoin, a cryptocurrency that promised huge profits and attracted millions of buyers around the world.
Ignatova hyped OneCoin at massive rallies and threw lavish champagne parties, acquiring luxury properties with the billions of euros invested in the cryptocurrency.
Ignatova disappeared without a trace in 2017 after defrauding investors of an estimated $15 billion in what was described as one of the biggest scams in history.
The series, tentatively titled "Take the Money and Run," will be a six-part fictionalized account closely based on true events.
The creators of the series aim to explore the story behind the billion-dollar fraud committed by a woman with an Oxford degree.
The series will have international appeal and will be directed by Adolfo J. Kolmerer, with filming set to begin next year in various locations.
