At the post-policy press conference T Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor of RBI said on the digital rupee that they want the process to happen, but gradually and slowly.
He added that their targets are in terms of users and merchants.
In addition, Sankar stated that the RBI does not want to be in a position where it acts without fully understanding the potential consequences.
Deputy Governor informed that 50,000 users and 5,000 merchants are currently transacting through eight banks and another five lenders are set to join soon.
Till now there have been 7.70 lakh transactions, and it is now being implemented in five cities.
Sankar further revealed that there are plans to add nine more cities to the list.
