‘Robin Hood' hacker steals Bitcoin from Russian intel: Report
May 01, 2023
An unnamed Bitcoin user reportedly hacked hundreds of wallets purportedly controlled by Russian security services.
The hacker identified 986 wallets controlled by the Foreign Military Intelligence Agency (GRU), Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), and Federal Security Service (FSB).
Written in Russian, the vigilante’s messages accuse the wallets of being involved in hacking activity, but it’s still unclear whether the allegations are true or not.
The first hacks were carried out a few weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
The hacker was initially determined to simply destroy the stolen funds in the wallets of the Russian special services.
But he changed tactics after the Russian war started and instead of burning the tokens, started transferring them to the addresses of Ukrainian volunteers.
The likelihood of such attacks raises concerns about the soundness of the country’s crypto operations.
