SEC announced its final decision on John McAfee’s alleged ICO scam.

July 16, 2022

SEC entered a final consent judgment against Jimmy Gale Watson, Jr., for his role in John McAfee's alleged initial coin offering promotion and scalping scheme.

SEC had filed a complaint against McAfee for promoting investments in ICOs without disclosing he was getting paid to do so.

Jimmy Gale Watson assisted the late tech pioneer in getting promotion deals with ICO issuers.

The SEC also accused McAfee and Watson of engaging in pump and dump schemes.

SEC imposed a fine of $375,000 on Watson and permanently banned him from engaging in any digital asset trading.

John McAfee, who had been on the run for many years over tax evasion charges, was found dead in Spanish prison in June last year.

The authorities claimed that McAfee died by suicide but his family continues to dispute those claims.
