South Korean Authorities and Meta Exec Discuss Metaverse Future

South Korea’s official media regulation agency discussed ways to boost user protection on the metaverse with Meta executive Andy O’Connell.

South Korean regulatory agency asked Meta to cooperate on safety in nascent virtual platforms such as the metaverse.

According to local news reports,  Ahn and O’Connell discussed transparency in algorithms behind digital platforms and preventing the circulation of illegal information.

Meta currently operates Horizon Worlds, a Virtual Reality game that is available to users in North America and Europe.

There have been several reports of users experiencing sexual assaults in Horizon Worlds. Meta has since taken measures to prevent that from happening.

Meta implemented a new measure that sets a four-foot distance between a user’s avatar and others with the exception of designated friends.

Meta has experienced loss worth billions of dollars in its Metaverse division, but continues to invest in it.
