Crypto’s celebrity crush gets a musical & futuristic twist with AKoin

Cryptocurrencies aren’t new to the charm of the cryptocurrencies. Crypto world captures the attention of everyone sooner or later. The newest addition is the singer Akon who announced the launch of a new cryptocurrency that’s called: “AKoin”. Announced at Cannes Lions, Akon whose real name is Aliaume Thiam talked about how he plans to build a futuristic city in Africa with the help of cryptocurrencies.

According to the official website, it describes AKoin as a new cryptocurrency that is

“created to empower youth entrepreneurship and economic inclusion through an exclusive suite of sustainability and growth building crypto-based apps that offer immediate and ongoing new revenue-generating opportunities to stimulate micro-exchanges and financial stability in Africa and beyond.”

Akon, “the global artist and change-maker who founded Akon Lighting Africa (providing scaled solar power solutions throughout Africa)” is planning to build an Akon Crypto City that is apparently a first of its kind.

Building a futuristic city in Africa

This city is 100% crypto-based with AKoin being the centre of its transaction life. “Already in development”, this futuristic city “is within 5 minutes of the new international airport, close to the coast and a short drive from Dakar, the capital city of Senegal (Akon’s homeland).”

This is the land, of about 2,000 acres, which has been gifted to Akon by President of Senegal. It basically blends the planning designs of leading Smart City with “a blank canvas for cryptonizing our daily human and business exchanges.” The focus is on “inventing a radical new way of existence.”

During the conference he talked about the merit of cryptocurrencies:

“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system and also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down.”

Well, the singer is no tech expert and he conveyed it when asked technical questions about the blockchain, “I come up with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out.”
