Hayden Adams Announces Uniswap's 'Pools,' Calls High-Fee Launchpads 'Extractive'

Key Highlights

  • Uniswap launches Pools, its first dedicated token launch platform on Robinhood Chain.
  • Hayden Adams says high-fee token launchpads are "extractive" and hurt traders.
  • Pools introduces zero launchpad fees, permanently locked liquidity and auto-compounding LP fees.

In a major product expansion, the leading DEX Uniswap has unveiled Pools, its first dedicated token launchpad platform to launch new crypto tokens.

Continuing its momentum with the new blockchain, Uniswap’s Pools is built on Robinhood Chain, allowing users to launch, discover and trade tokens through Uniswap’s v4 liquidity infrastructure.

While developers have used Uniswap as the liquidity layer for token launches for years, Pools marks the protocol’s first native launchpad. It introduces built-in launch mechanisms, permanently locked liquidity and anti-sniping features.

“We’re incredibly excited for the launch of TradePools,” Uniswap founder Hayden Adams wrote on X. “People have used Uniswap as both a launchpad and launchpad infrastructure for over eight years. We’re excited to be building alongside all the other launchpads to move the space forward.”

How Uniswap’s Pools LaunchPad Offers Lower Fees

As per Uniswap’s official blog, Pools introduces two token launch methods: Instant Launch and Crowd Launch.

Instant Launch allows creators to launch a token and begin trading immediately, similar to existing launchpads.

However, the second option, Crowd Launch uses an auction-style model where participants place bids during a fixed window before trading begins. Once bidding closes, a single clearing price is determined, and successful bidders receive their tokens at the same price before liquidity is created.

Uniswap says the mechanism is designed to reduce sniping, bot activity and unfair advantages often seen during token launches.

Every token launched through Pools includes permanently locked liquidity, preventing creators from withdrawing liquidity after launch. The platform also introduces auto-compounding liquidity, which automatically reinvests trading fees into the liquidity pool, helping deepen liquidity over time.

Calling it the most distinguished feature, Pools does not charge an additional platform fee. Instead, traders pay only Uniswap’s standard 0.25% liquidity provider fee, while creators can optionally enable creator fees.

Uniswap Founder Adams Criticizes High-Fee Launchpads

Alongside the launch, Adams defended Uniswap’s design philosophy, arguing that many existing launchpads rely on unnecessarily high trading fees.

“This mindset assumes people want to use highly extractive, shady platforms,” he wrote. “We’re making the opposite bet – that users will prefer quality tech and a level playing field.”

Adams argued that the 1% liquidity pool fee commonly used by many launchpads effectively creates a 2% trading spread. This increases trading costs for users.

“The ultra high 1% pool fee (aka 2% spread) is the primary method of extraction,” he said.

According to Adams, high-fee launch pools also become less useful as projects mature because traders eventually migrate to lower-fee liquidity pools. This leaves the original launch liquidity underutilized.

By comparison, he said Pools’ 0.25% fee tier is designed to remain efficient as projects grow while allowing liquidity to expand through automatic fee compounding.

Addressing confusion around the platform’s fee model, Adams clarified that the 0.25% liquidity provider fee does not go to Uniswap Labs.

“The 0.25% LP fees autocompounds to the locked liquidity pool; it does not go to the Uniswap team,” he wrote. He added that fees are split with 80% automatically compounding into the liquidity pool and 20% allocated to creators when creator fees are enabled.

Why Uniswap’s Pools is Already Winning the Token Launchpad Race

In an unusual start, Adams further revealed that traders discovered earlier versions of the Pools smart contracts before the user interface officially launched.

According to him, those contracts generated more than $150 million in trading volume, requiring the team to update its indexing systems to support both the early contracts and the final deployment simultaneously.

“Degens discovered earlier versions of the smart contracts and traded over $150 million in trading volume before the UI even went live,” Adams said.

He added that the unexpected activity delayed the rollout but demonstrated strong early interest in the product.

As of now, Pools is launching in beta and is already integrated with the Uniswap web app, Uniswap Wallet and Trading API. Adams said the team plans to release continuous upgrades based on community feedback.

Thus, with Pools, Uniswap is formalizing a role in the intensely competitive token launchpads market where the leading pump.fun is already seeing declining activitiy. But the protocol is betting that lower fees, permanently locked liquidity and fairer launch mechanics will help it stand out in an increasingly competitive token launchpad market.
