The official X account BNB Chain has been compromised, with recent posts promoting a meme coin while featuring founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). Another post also promoted an airdrop with free rewards on the BNB Chain. The social media team of Binance has been working to gain back control, with the founder issuing an important message.
A few hours back, Binance’s Chinese account issued an urgent warning that the official English X account @BNBCHAIN has been compromised and is under repair. Interestingly, the hackers promoted a meme coin with the feature of Changpeng Zhao (CZ) on it. Interestingly, this meme coin promotion comes within two weeks of CZ stating that meme coins have ‘utility’ after securing a million-dollar funding for Binance’s Giggle Academy.
Furthermore, the scammers also posted about airdrop events taking place on BNB Chain and the distribution of free rewards. Well, the hackers have posted multiple such links through the official X handle, leaving investors confused regarding the current developments. The BNB Chain has been gaining much popularity while taking the lead in emerging areas like RWA tokenization.
Bounce founder Zhao was quick to issue a message through his X handle and asked investors to stay SAFU. The Binance founder wrote:
“The @BNBCHAIN X account is compromised. The hacker posted a bunch of links to phishing websites that ask for Wallet Connect. Do NOT connect your wallet.
Security teams have notified X already, working to suspend the account first, then restore access. Also take-down requests to take down all phishing websites. Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles.
Stay SAFU!”
Interestingly, this development occurred hours after CZ geared up his followers for a Uptober Rally, following a strong September. Following the latest development, the BNB price is down 1.83% to $1,010, however, bulls have continued to hold above the crucial support of $1,000.
Investors shall be closely watching these developments, as the crypto market is likely to face volatility amid fears of a US shutdown. While Bitcoin has been holding the line at $114,000, altcoins have been under pressure as of press time.
