Crypto Scams Alert! Robocallers Are Now Behind Your Cryptocurrency

Published by

Everyone is upgrading themselves in this new technological era. Whether it’s the automobile, pharmaceutical, or defense industries. How can robocallers remain unnoticed? Robocallers are those who make robocalls. It is a call that delivers pre-recorded messages to millions of people each day via auto-dialing software. The majority of those are done for scams.

After extorting people for money, robocallers are now upgrading their services. They are experts at what they do. These individuals have established an organization for themselves. Following the collapse of FTX, these organizations are now targeting cryptocurrency users. However, millions of automated calls and text messages are being initiated in an attempt to steal information and funds.

Robocall Data in the US

According to YouMail’s monthly robocall data, US citizens received over 28 billion robocalls in 2022. According to the data, US citizens are increasingly being exposed to poorly structured robocalls, which are mostly rejected by recipients due to security and privacy concerns. This data only covers the first half of the year. It will be enormous by the end of the year. Toll-free numbers were among the most common sources of robocalling activity. Robocaller generally targets young people in the US.

Truecaller sees an increase in robocallers call

According to LiaBraaten, Truecaller also noticed an increase in scam communications involving Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies when the market started to become volatile earlier in 2022.

A million automated robocalls and texts are sent out by agents who are ultimately trying to steal money. He said it is an effort to capitalize on people’s fear, curiosity, and occasionally generosity. Truecaller reports that imposter scams most frequently involve a malicious actor pretending to be a support desk or other similar entity from a significant cryptocurrency exchange or business

Regardless of one’s ability to spot a scam, truecaller CEO advised avoiding communication with anyone who calls or texts and requests personal information or passwords and sticking to official channels.

CEO Changpeng raises concerns about robocallers

Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao earlier in February warned about a “massive” SMS phishing scam that was aimed at Binance users. These scams are generally done by robocallers. Users were tricked into visiting a fake website where their login information was collected by sending them a text message with a link to cancel withdrawals.
