Michael Saylor Proves No Asset Compares to Bitcoin (BTC)

Published by

MicroStrategy’s founder Michael Saylor highlighted in a recent post on X that Bitcoin (BTC) stands out above other traditional investment options.

Michael Saylor on Bitcoin Dominance

Bitcoin’s remarkable performance becomes evident when one examines the cumulative returns it has delivered. In a recent asset class total returns sheet shared by Saylor, Bitcoin has returned an astounding 1,120,785% from 2011 to 2023. This equates to an annualized return of 147.5%, a figure that is nothing short of staggering.

These numbers are awe-inspiring when compared to traditional asset classes such as the U.S. Nasdaq 100 or U.S. Large Caps, both of which, while solid performers in their own right, fall significantly behind Bitcoin’s return rate. Per the data shared, the US Nasdaq 100 is up 613% since 2011 while US Large Caps is up 315%.

One of the most compelling aspects of this data is the resilience Bitcoin has exhibited over the years. Despite its well-documented volatility and occasional market dips, Bitcoin has consistently maintained an upward trajectory. This resilience indicates the cryptocurrency’s ability to weather market turbulence and continue to grow in value over the long term.

MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin Treasury Reserves

A significant component of this discussion is MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin portfolio, which serves as a real-world example of Bitcoin’s attractiveness as an asset. Under the leadership of Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy has made bold and strategic moves in the crypto space. The company’s current holdings of 158,245 BTC, valued at approximately $5.43 billion, are nothing short of impressive.

Saylor’s journey into the crypto space began in August 2020 when his company decided to convert its treasury assets into Bitcoin. Saylor saw Bitcoin not as a speculative asset but as a long-term store of value. He believed in its potential to outperform traditional assets like gold and bonds, and he put his company’s treasury assets where his mouth is.

MicroStrategy’s approach to Bitcoin investment is particularly noteworthy. The data from Saylor tracker clearly illustrates a strategic accumulation of Bitcoin. The green purchase markers on the graph indicate a consistent pattern of buying the dips in the market.

This consistent accumulation strategy, combined with Bitcoin’s overall performance, has resulted in substantial returns on MicroStrategy’s investments.
