Weiss Rating is a financial rating agency that offers cryptocurrency reviews. They offer crypto asset ratings for all players in the cryptocurrency industry, including retail investors prepared to take big risks, institutional investors, and other stakeholders.
The ratings are intended to assist in identifying the crypto assets with the highest short-term profit potential as well as the best long-term possibilities of survival and success.
They rate crypto coins in five categories:
A Excellent
B Good
C Fair
D Weak
E Very weak
Each grade is based on an innovative model that takes into account thousands of data points about each cryptocurrency’s technology, adoption, investment risk, and market momentum.
The overall objective of Weiss Ratings is to assist the public in avoiding both hype and panic. Their Crypto Ratings Model informs you what to purchase, while their Crypto Timing Model tells you when to buy. They recommend cryptocurrencies for both short-term trading and long-term investing.
Currently, there are no cryptocurrencies that are rated A. None. Bitcoin is the highest-rated cryptocurrency, with a B rating.
Weiss Ratings lists seven coins in the “B-” (minus) category, namely, Cardano, ChainLink, Ethereum, LiteCoin, Polygon MATIC, Stellar, and Uniswap.
The Criteria and Credibility
According to the founder, Martin Weiss,
“Developers want a grade based exclusively on what their cryptocurrency project has achieved in terms of technology and adoption, regardless of market fluctuations. In contrast, investors seem to be more interested in how much money they can make or lose. Our overall Weiss Rating is a blend of both. But now, we are also breaking out the components so users can better understand what’s under the hood.”
The founder commented on the rating’s complexity,
“The overall Weiss Rating is based on a complex algorithm — not simply an average of the two component grades. At this stage in the industry’s transition to newer technologies, it remains extremely difficult for any one coin to achieve top scores across the board. Older generation coins with broader adoption typically lag in technology. Alternative coins with more advanced technology lag in adoption. And none currently have a risk-reward balance that’s comparable to many traditional investments.”
Despite its popularity, Weiss Ratings is also a haven for many detractors. According to Ari Paul, chief investment officer of BlockTower Capital,
“Weiss cryptocurrency ratings are a great example of the ongoing institutionalization of the cryptocurrency industry and a healthy addition … Their rating of Bitcoin suggests a misunderstanding of the core value proposition of cryptocurrency, however, as they seem to overvalue transaction capacity, and undervalue protocol stability, security, and decentralization.”
Mr. Weiss, who has come to save the company’s legibility and standards, firmly recoils,
“Unlike Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s, Fitch, and A.M. Best, Weiss Rating never accepts compensation of any kind from the companies or entities it rates. Its revenues are derived strictly from individual investors, consumers, and other end users of its ratings.”
Since Weiss ratings are only one of the reviews on the market, they are sure to be subject to criticism. Investors ultimately have to solely depend on their market research to make a decision.
