Democrat Elizabeth Warren has made sharp attacks with “fraud” and money laundering allegations, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a prison pardon to the Binance founder. Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has reverted with a message that the Senator must get her facts straight before coming up with such allegations. The Binance founder has also received massive support from the crypto community.

Senator Elizabeth Warren Calls Changpeng Zhao’s Pardon “Corruption”

Binance founder CZ is having the ultimate relief in the SEC lawsuit as the Donald Trump administration grants a full pardon against charges of banking violations. Irked by this development, anti-crypto lawmaker Elizabeth Warren called on Congress to unite to stop this “corruption”. In her message on the X platform, Warren wrote:

“CZ pleaded guilty to a criminal money laundering charge and was sentenced to prison. But then he financed President Trump’s stablecoin and lobbied for a pardon. Today, he got it. If Congress does not stop this kind of corruption, it owns it”.

Responding to it, Changpeng Zhao slammed Senator Warren for misrepresenting facts about his case, stating that there were “no money laundering charges” against him. In a post on X, CZ said the lawmaker publicly made inaccurate claims about his legal proceedings.

Zhao also pointed out that the same Senator had declared “war on crypto” on national television just five days before his sentencing under the Biden administration. He suggested that this reflects a broader “weaponization” of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) against the crypto industry.

While announcing the pardon for Changpeng Zhao, President Trump said: “They said, what he did is not even a crime, wasn’t a crime… I gave him a pardon at the request of a lot of good people.” Last month, there were also rumors of CZ’s return to Binance. It will be interesting to see if such a development materializes in the near future.
