USDC giant Circle has announced a big move to bring the top leading tech expertise into its company. It has added Kirk Koenigsbauer, a longtime Microsoft veteran, to its board of directors.
The move, flagged by CEO Jeremy Allaire on X, comes at a pivotal moment for Circle as it is transitioning into one of crypto’s most systemically important infrastructure players. The company is not becoming just a stablecoin issuer, but a foundational layer for onchain dollars.
His appointment brings the board up to nine members, who are led by co-founder, Chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire and includes co-founder Sean Neville. The broader Circle board has other independent directors t00 – from former CFTC Chairman Heath Terbert, Stripe SVP Danielle Spiegel, Former Minister for Finance, Ireland Michael Noonan to Circle CFO Jeremy Fox-Geen himself.

Interestingly, Circle’s Governance Charter 2025 mentions that Board appointments at Circle Internet Financial are led by its Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, which identifies candidates based on the company’s evolving strategic needs.
Directors are typically selected for their expertise across areas such as enterprise technology, finance, and regulation. That also includes their ability to meet public-market independence standards and contribute to oversight of risk, strategy, and governance
Who is Circle’s New Board Director
As per the official release, Koenigsbauer will serve on Circle’s Compensation and Risk Committees. As per his Linkedin, has also been a board member at Thomson Reuters since 2020.
Koenigsbauer brings more than 30 years of experience building and scaling global enterprise and cloud software services. He currently serves as President & COO of Microsoft’s Experiences and Devices Group, where he oversees products like Microsoft 365 and Copilot.
During his tenure, Koenigsbauer led the transition of Microsoft Office to the cloud with Office 365. He helped create Microsoft 365 as an integrated productivity platform, and played a key role in building Microsoft’s security business. He has an experience spanning large-scale cloud platforms, enterprise AI services, and globally used digital infrastructure.

As Allaire noted, he has background in scaling mission-critical software platforms, building global security operations, and driving operational excellence. This, Jeremy said, “is expected to support Circle’s efforts to strengthen its risk management, governance, and enterprise capabilities.”
The appointment comes at a critical time. USDC has re-entered a strong growth cycle with its all time USDC transaction volume surpassing $70.06 trillion and market capp reaching %580 million . The company is now making deeper pushes into Agentic commerce with recently making ERC-8400 LIVE ON ITS BLOCKCHAIN It is also currently powering 97% of Agentic commerce. Amid this push, a board of director from the Big Tech could provide the company with leading expertise.
That growth is increasingly translating into equity market momentum. Circle, now publicly traded under CRCL, commands a market capitalization in the $25–$37 billion range with its stock CRCL trading in 128-132 USD range. The company’s valuation has expanded dramatically since its 2025 IPO, when it initially targeted roughly $6.7 billion.
