Blockchain-Powered K-Pop Girl Group tripleS Debuts First Album

Decentralized K-pop girl group tripleS has released its debut album ASSEMBLE, which is expected to become a massive hit after fans nominated “Rising” as its headline track via a blockchain-based community vote.

TripleS is a 24-member all-girl group led by Modhaus, a Web3 startup and project that’s using blockchain technology to promote Korean culture. The all-girl collective came to attention last year when its first members were revealed to the public. With its newest members being introduced periodically, tripleS aims to become the world’s first interactive, decentralized K-pop idol group, where fans get to participate in key decisions. The tripleS members will rotate with each new single and album release, meaning they’ll all get to perform various group, sub-unit and solo activities based on the outcome of fans’ votes.

Fans of tripleS have an unparalleled opportunity to influence the group, with the ability to vote on everything from the leading tracks in each album release to the composition of its sub-units.

The eight-track ASSEMBLE was launched on Feb. 13 as tripleS’ debut album, graced by all 10 of the group’s stars that have been announced thus far: SeoYeon Yoon, HyeRin Jeong, JiWoo Lee, ChaeYeon Kim, YooYeon Kim, SooMin Kim, NaKyoung Kim, YuBin Gong, Kaede, and DaHyun Seo. Each member was chosen by tripleS fans through a blockchain-based voting process known as “Gravity”.

The votes took place over a seven-day period from Dec. 1 to Dec. 8, with hundreds of fans using the Modhaus mobile app COSMO: the Origin to select one song over another through a tournament format. The final round of voting saw Rising emerge as the most popular, and therefore lead track of ASSEMBLE. Altogether, fans of the group used more than 57,340 COMO (voting tokens) throughout the selection process.

The 10 TripleS members, who each have a special ability “S”, took the opportunity to thank their fans and answer questions during their first Modhaus live hangout on Discord from Jan. 30 to Feb. 6. It’s believed that this was the first time ever that a popular K-Pop group used Discord to interact with its fans in this way, making it even more accessible than rival groups. TripleS leverages social media to the fullest extent, with Modhaus regularly posting SIGNAL videos in a vlog format on its official YouTube channel.

Jaden Jeong said he was extremely confident that ASSEMBLE would be a massive hit, precisely because of tripleS’s fan’s input, choosing the title track. According to him, tripleS will demonstrate that fan-centered systems are the future of the entertainment industry.

“This is an unprecedented case of letting the fans listen and decide on the album’s main song,” he said.
