Craig Wright Faces Cross Examination in Satoshi Nakamoto Identity Case

There has been a legal showdown ever since Wright claimed that he is the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto. The matter went as far as attracting the attention of the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) which levied serious accusations against Craig Wright. Afterward, the case was taken to the London High Court with Justice Edward James Mellor as the presiding judge.

The lawsuit was focused on addressing the consequences of Wright’s claim as well as the broader implications of his actions on the cryptocurrency community. Together with top tech companies like Meta and Block, COPA accused Craig Wright of perpetuating an “elaborate false narrative” through widespread forgery.

Markedly, this was not the first lawsuit against Wright as he has had a series of lawsuits within the crypto community. A few weeks ago, the lawsuit took a new turn as Wright faced cross-examination. He has been unable to provide cryptographic evidence to substantiate his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

He has also failed to recall any specific Bitcoin transactions under the pseudonym Satoshi. Over time, there have been several inconsistencies in his past testimonies therefore COPA made it a point of duty to uncover any alleged forgery by Craig Wright and prevent him from suing more individuals who dispute his claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto.

Hearing Takes a Twist

On the 15th day of the Craig Wright hearing, the Bitcoin developer’s lawyer Alexander Gunning once again pointed out that Wright’s claim to be Satoshi is a fraud. Gunning made this emphatic allegation based on hard evidence presented and because Craig’s recollection of the resources that were used in the Bitcoin Whitepaper was false.

Rather than refute Gunning’s position, Craig Wright stated that he didn’t need to be Satoshi, a move that may imply that he was never the pseudonymous Bitcoin creator. He made this assertion as he self-appraised his own Bitcoin SV (BSV) protocol which was recently removed for trading on Coinbase Exchange.

“BSV already does more transactions than Oracle and Microsoft. Governments are talking to us,” Wright added to showcase how relevant BSV is growing.

The cross-examination is bound to continue on Monday but in the meantime, Craig Wright’s claims remain one that many in the industry may have to ponder and analyze for some time as the search for Satoshi Nakamoto continues.
