Ethereum Logo Meaning: Here’s Everything You Should Know

Ethereum Logo: In the sub-reddit r/ethereum, a user explained how the first version of the logo came into being. The logo has an interesting backstory: it began as a last-minute symbol made by one of the early founders, and Vitalik on Texture application.

It consisted of two summation symbols (∑) oriented at a 45-degree angle to each side. The end effect resembled a diamond. There was a bounty announced for a new logo after the presale. And the winning logo was essentially a reimagining of the original diamond symbol.

While Ethereum was founded by a number of people, Vitalik Buterin was the first to outline the concept of Ethereum in November 2013. After Buterin laid the groundwork, additional minds joined in various roles to help make the vision a reality.

When Buterin presented the idea behind the blockchain project to the world at a Bitcoin convention in Miami, Florida, in early 2014, Ethereum began to gain popularity. Later that year, the project was funded through an initial coin offering, which sold $18 million worth of ETH tokens.

Logo Symbol

A rhomboid form serves as the foundation for the logo (octahedron). It is surrounded by four triangles: two bigger identical triangles above it, and two smaller identical triangles below it. A white space separates the rhomboid from the two lower triangles.

The octahedron is the only member of the Platonic solids to have mirror planes that do not cross through any of the faces. Natural diamond, alum, and fluorite crystals are generally octahedral.

The Ethereum logo’s primary colours are black, white, and grey, with varied degrees of transparency. The central right triangle is the darkest, whereas the central left triangle is lighter and seems dark grey. Two more triangles are light grey in colour.

Meaning:

A lot of people have their own theories about what the logo means; however, there’s no official statement or clarification about this.

According to some, the octahedron represents the element of air and is associated with the heart chakra, the centre of love and compassion. Others believe it represents a mirror, a perfect reflection of itself, which is a nice reminder of how we are all mirrors or reflections of one another.

Some people associate the octahedron with healing, manifestation, and energy work. They claim that energy will flow in equal parts from the two tips (top and bottom), with additional, softer energy flowing from each of the eight side edges.

Who designed the Logo?

Richard Stott, Ethereum’s Creative Designer, created the logo. There is no documented inspiration or motive attributed to him specifically for the design. However, there is a generic quote associated with his name: “We don’t need to explain what we do; we only need to explain why we do it.”
