Sorare is a fantasy football game that digitizes football card collecting and trading. Sorare users use the ERC-721 token standard to buy, sell, and trade player cards represented as NFTs. In this game, points are given based on the on-pitch statistics of professional soccer players. The weekly objective is to outperform other users in the leagues by accumulating the most points.
NFTs add a new dimension to Sorare because they can be exchanged outside of the game on sites like Opensea and Rarible. Therefore, if you have a card that is in high demand, players could make a lot of money. With licensed players from over 200 teams, players from AC Milan, Juventus, Liverpool FC, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain FC, J.League teams (Japan), La Liga (Spain), and Major League Soccer can be found on digital trading cards.
French developers Nicolas Julia (Co-founder and CEO) and Adrien Montfort founded Sorare in Paris in September 2018. Julia and Montfort previously worked at Stratumn, a company that provides enterprise-level blockchain solutions. Sorare raised more than $500,000 in a pre-seed round in May 2019 that was organized by Seedcamp, Kima Ventures, and ConsenSys Ventures. Around $10 million was raised for Sorare in a seed round led by e.ventures (now known as Headline) in July 2020. In February 2021, the company raised an additional $50 million through Series A financing led by Benchmark, with funding from Headline, Accel, and other business angels.
Sorare has licensees from 140 clubs in 31 leagues. Major League Soccer (MLS) players’ images may be used on the platform (but not the image rights of MLS and its clubs). Additionally, well-known athletes like André Schürrle and Gerard Piqué support the game. One Shot League is a time-limited competition that Sorare and gaming behemoth Ubisoft will debut in March 2021. Managers will assemble teams using players from the Jupiler Pro League in this competition.
Playing Sorare is different from watching the league on television. Users can assemble a virtual team as a manager. The collectible digital cards, also known as non-fungible tokens, are the game’s main component. Users receive five-player cards for free when they sign up for the Sorare game.
Users don’t need to put any money upfront to get started. But is it free to play Sorare? Yes, it is, but you can start trading if you want to advance in the game. There are five key positions on every soccer team: goalie, defender, midfielder, striker, and sub. On the OpenSea NFT marketplace, users can purchase these player cards. In the SO5 league games, your team receives a certain number of points based on the real-time soccer players’ performances.
Every week, users’ players compete in online tournaments, earning points based on how well they perform on the actual playing field. A soccer player in real life either scores a goal or receives a red card as punishment. Accordingly, users gain or lose game points. This will be reflected, either positively or negatively, in the number of points that they receive as a user. Remember that luck plays a role as well, as a star player may get benched or given a rest. It’s too bad because users had that player already planned for their team.

Sorare provides a unique experience even though it is fundamentally still a fantasy soccer game. During the draught, users purchase digital trading cards that are tokenized on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain rather than picking player names from a list. Players own these non-fungible token cards, and they are free to resell them as digital collectibles. The narrative in Sorare is also centered on the NFT cards. There are rare and exclusive cards as well as crypto prizes up for grabs.
Users of Sorare can register for a variety of leagues, including the Rookie, Under 23, and Regional Leagues. Every play week, each player can create a fresh lineup using the cards they currently hold. At the end of the week, points are calculated based on how the soccer players actually performed in real life. Users of Sorare who have the most points are eligible to win exclusive prizes like rare cards and Ethereum tokens.
There are 5 types of players in the sorare game:
Choose the players to want to put in each position on your squad until all the spots are filled. Keep in mind that the “Extra” slot should not be used for a replacement; rather, it should be used to cover another position on the team. By filling this position with a defender, a midfielder, or a forward, you have the option of scoring points from your team of players. Afterward, players can change their lineup based on who they believe will perform well offensively.
Next, choose the leader of your team. Choose carefully because that player has a chance to earn an additional 20% bonus points during a given game week. On the desired captain’s card, click the “C” icon in the top-left corner. Before clicking “Confirm,” keep in mind to choose one because, without it, your team won’t advance to the next stage. Click “Confirm” to complete the formation of your team once you are happy with it. It’s time to start playing Sorare now that your team is assembled! Overall, the onboarding process is quite simple and instructs you in the fundamentals. When players are ready to purchase premium Sorare NFT cards tokenized on Ethereum, it drops them into the market.

Yes, playing Sorare is free of charge. A number of so-called Common cards are given to players as a gift during registration. These are not restricted and cannot be traded on the open market. However, they do permit participation in numerous beginner tournaments, which are primarily used to familiarise oneself with the gameplay.
Sorare creates a blockchain-based game by combining fantasy sports leagues and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). All 30 Major League Baseball teams are represented in the Sorare NFT collection, along with more than 280 soccer leagues. Superstars in baseball and soccer can be found, such as Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The OpenSea marketplace also sells these NFTs.
Sorare caters to both baseball and soccer fans by offering play-to-earn mechanics with distinctive athlete cards. Depending on the state of the match, each card has useful stats. To create a new card in Sorare, you do not need to combine and “breed” two existing cards, in contrast to some other NFT card games like Gods Unchained. On the platform, you can find hundreds of cards to add to your roster because what you see is what you get. The overall stats and rarity affect each card’s value. Additionally, there isn’t an “official” price for each card.

In order of increasing rarity, there are four categories: Limited, Rare, Super Rare, and Unique. The latter is more expensive, but offers an additional bonus of points and allows managers to compete in tournaments with especially large prizes. Each card in Sorare has a serial number that identifies it specifically in the upper left corner. The season from which it originated is directly above it. Cards from the current season are given a 5% points bonus, which gives them an advantage over cards from previous seasons. Aside from that, the other details club, shirt number, age, etc. speak for themselves.
On Sorare, teams accumulate points by competing in and succeeding in leagues. Each card has a Player Score that is based on the player’s actual performance over the previous five games, taking into account metrics like goals, assists, and penalties. The Player Score is multiplied by card bonuses based on captain status, season, and experience points to determine a card’s Card Score. The total score for each team is the sum of the card scores for the five cards.
The game has nine leagues divided into three different league structures: global, regional, and special. Each league has four divisions, and managers can enter one team in each division to compete in the weekly leagues and win ETH and cards as prizes. Managers can then use Sorare’s website to transfer the ETH rewards to their own wallets.
We cannot influence players’ decisions to invest in Sorare, but we can tell them how much the Sorare cards are worth. The auction prices at the end of 2021 were as follows:
Players can track all trades and statistics directly on the website. This way they are always aware of the value of their potential future cards.

The SOR token is the in-game currency for the play-to-earn game. It is an Ethereum blockchain-compatible ERC-20 token. As a user, they can trade their Sorare NFTs for this token or stake it. They could make a passive income if they decide to stake SOR. The token is primarily used to purchase new collectible cards, though.
In terms of total sales volume among NFT-based collectibles, Sorare is currently ranked fifth. More than 400,000 completed sales totaling about $82 million have been made through Sorare so far. In February 2021, as NFTs began to take off, the business saw its historically highest level of activity. In January 2021, the overall sales were roughly 1,000 per day. By February 27, they had increased to about 6,000 per day. The most expensive player card ever sold was a one-of-a-kind Cristiano Ronaldo NFT by Sorare in March 2021, fetching nearly $300,000. The total sales volume and total sales, however, gradually decreased as interest waned and are now roughly $300,000 and 1,300 transactions per day.
Sorare combines soccer, fantasy sports, sports memorabilia, and nonfungible cryptocurrency tokens. No prior experience has been able to compare to it. The NBA Top Shot series is the most well-known crypto NFT collectibles of the present. The basketball nonfungible token series, however, lacks a true “game” component aside from intra-personal competitions based on collections.
Furthermore, Sorare offers true fantasy-style competition despite having a pay-to-win element. For those who don’t mind spending real money to assemble the best team, there are also tangible benefits and the promise of victory. In addition, several international soccer leagues have granted the game official licenses. This permits the use of actual team names, player photos, and card artwork from some of the most well-known soccer clubs in the world. Sorare currently has a significant competitive advantage over other fantasy soccer games because it has such extensive licensing across the board.
