Just In: Europe Adopts AI Journalism Standards for Media

The Council of Europe, in a decisive move, has established new guidelines to govern the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism. These guidelines, adopted by the Council’s Intergovernmental Steering Committee on Media and the Information Society (CDMSI), mark a significant step in shaping the future of news production and dissemination.

These guidelines, first introduced on November 30, are designed to ensure that the integration of AI in journalism aligns with the principles of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Conversely, challenges such as copyright disputes, exemplified by the recent lawsuit The New York Times filed against OpenAI and Microsoft, underscore the complexities introduced by AI in content creation.
