What is BitTorrent-New?

The BitTorrent-new (BTT) token is a TRC-20 utility token inside the BitTorrent ecosystem designed to integrate Web 3.0 technology into torrents. The team behind BitTorrent believes that the token will facilitate a decentralized torrent platform that bridges the gap between content creators and viewers without the need for intermediaries.

The old BitTorrent Token with the ticker BTTOLD was a TRC-10 token on the Tron blockchain with a total supply of 990 billion. However, the new BitTorrent token (BTT), which is an upgrade from TRC-10 to TRC-20, has an increased total supply of 990 trillion. Users can swap the old tokens for the new BTT tokens on a centralized exchanger or on the official site.

BitTorrent has been one of the world’s most prominent decentralized file-sharing protocols for quite some time now. Originally launched in 2001, it was acquired by the Tron Foundation on July 24th, 2018. The token extends the services that BitTorrent currently provides. For instance, BitTorrent pays people who are sharing files for priority bandwidth in BTT tokens. Other plans include live stream tipping in BTT, purchase of downloadable media and more.

BTT Price Trends

The BitTorrent-New Token was launched in 2019 through an initial exchange offering on Binance. Binance conducted the IEO in two separate sales – one for those paying with the token native to the Tron blockchain and the other for those who paid with Binance’s native token, BNB.

Trading in BTT began to increase in February 2021. BTT price hit an all-time high of $0.013566 on April 5^th, 2021. However, BitTorrent Token’s price started falling steadily until July 21^st, when it reached $0.002154. BitTorrent Token’s all-time low was $0.000138 on March 13^th, 2020.

How does BitTorrent-New token Work?

The BitTorrent-New tokens merge BitTorrent’s P2P file sharing solutions as a protocol and Tron as a TRC-20 token. Since it’s an internet communication protocol, BitTorrent uses its software to distribute large files such as movies, videos, games and other digital content by allowing users to download them as small files.

However, certain challenges such as server and network congestion occur when users receive a single file from multiple providers. BTT token aims to improve BitTorrent’s distributed network by providing incentives to increase its efficiency.

BitTorrent-New is the currency to facilitate micropayments on BitTorrent, using Tron’s peer-to-peer payment platform. It employs an on-chain/off-chain approach where it executes all BTT transactions in a private ledger first. Afterwards, it then transfers the transactions to Tron’s blockchain, ensuring transparency and accountability.

It is known for being the world’s first heterogeneous cross-chain interoperability protocol. It runs on the proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism and uses side chains for scaling smart contracts. BTTC also supports the seamless transfer of assets between multiple chains at a low cost, such as between Tron, Binance Smart Chain and Ethereum.

BitTorrent has also launched BitTorrent speed for its incentivizing its clients in BTT tokens for prolonged seeding. This gives users an incentive to share their bandwidth which ensures faster download speeds. The user can create a local BitTorrent wallet or import an existing one

With BitTorrent speed, users can create a local BitTorrent wallet or import an existing one which is compatible with Tron. New users on the platform are also eligible for a 50 BTT airdrop. To ensure security BitTorrent adds CAPTCHA integration within the airdrop flow.

The BitTorrent File System

It is the company’s innovative file-sharing and storage system which seeks to address challenges such as vendor lock-in effect, blown-up maintenance costs and censorship. It consists of a vault, staking, price, proof of storage and airdrop contracts. The project has an advanced web3 architecture consisting of nodes that can either be a renter or a host.

Two tokens power the BitTorrent File System – BTT and Wrapped BitTorrent Token (WBTT). Hosts receive BTT airdrops every seven days for providing file storage services, Renters have to pay to upload files into the system. As a unit currency, BTT ensures precise pricing of services and decentralised trading of computing resources.

In 2018, Tron acquires BitTorrent.
On February 11^th, 2019, The BitTorrent Foundation started delivering airdrops of BTT to TRON holders.
BitTorrent came up with its own blockchain in December 2021 – the BitTorrent Chain (BTTC).
In March 2021, BitTorrent’s valuation crosses the $5 billion mark.
The price of BitTorrent reaches its all-time high of $0.000003 on January 21^st, 2022.
