Ripple CTO Sounds Important Security Alarm, Here's How To Stay Safe

Highlights

  • Ripple CTO has called attention to a major Windows linked security flaw
  • The security vulnerability can be exploited in close proximity but deemed dangerous
  • The flaw has not caused any losses but might seen

Ripple CTO David Schwartz has once again called the attention of the community to a major security risk involving Microsoft Windows. While the digital currency ecosystem that the Ripple CTO generally represents is known for related vulnerabilities, the broader tech world is also not immune.

Ripple CTO on the Way Forward

Talking to his more than 499,900 followers on the X app, the Ripple CTO said there is “a vulnerability in every version of Windows that allows an attacker in WiFi range to run arbitrary code.”

This alarm indicates that beyond the direct access to launch an attacker on users, a big could permit distant attacks. While David Schwartz advocated patching laptops right away, many are still in the dark on the implication of the security flaw.

According to the Microsoft security reporting page, the vulnerability was disclosed by Cyber KunLun. Just as in the crypto ecosystem, a group of Whitehat researchers are constantly fishing for flaws in Web3 DApps. Since no code is perfect, innovators in general organize this Whitehat event or hackathons.

These events brings like minded researchers to explore crypto platform’s codes and suggest how to patch discovered risks. While it remains uncertain if CyberKunLun was rewarded for his scoop, crypto outfits are often vocal about the attached rewards.

This crypto approach has proven effective in helping to refund stolen cash from Poly Network. The more than $610 million hack suffered by Poly Network in 2021 saw the hacker return all the cash. The gory event turned into a Whitehat encounter and the attacker got rewards with an appointment as security Chief amongst other.

The risk the Ripple CTO asked users to patch their laptops for have no known record of causing any actual damage yet.

Combating Crypto Risks

The more prevalence in risks the crypto industry faces, the higher many risk-loving investors go all out in the market. With the difficulty in controlling human behavior, the Ripple CTO have always played the advocacy role.

Many industry leaders also want users to do the basics like ensuring comprehensive and proper audit of codes before launching. While these may not completely prevent cybercrime, it may help reduce the veracity for a while.

Crypto regulation is also a major option that might help innovators. Regulation might help them conform to the broader compliance scheme that can keep consumers safe.
