The latest company to succumb to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) trend is popular financial brokerage service provider Robinhood.
On Monday, Vlad Tenev, CEO and Co-founder of Robinhood announced the launch of its new AI tool dubbed Harmonic. Based on Tenev’s description, the new protocol is a commercial AI research lab building Mathematical Superintelligence (MSI). This model is designed as a fusion of AI and mathematical reasoning. However, it has the uniqueness of a higher reasoning power than human beings.
Robinhood CEO acknowledged the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to simulate human languages. However, it also highlighted the fact that they are capable of providing wrong results or exhibit hallucination. Tenev claims that Mathematics was invented earlier as a specific solution to this problem.
“It allows us to rigorously define and align on a common truth and is the foundation for all scientific discovery,” Tenev explained “This is one of the reasons I pursued a Mathematics PhD before becoming an entrepreneur.”
Over the years, top researchers thought the solution to mathematical reasoning and this “hallucinations” problem could only be found in huge language models. Robinhood does not agree with this stance and this led to the development of Harmonic, per Tenev’s X post.
The brokerage firm came up with a strategy to incorporate mathematics as a primitive in its AI model, providing a direct solution to the aforementioned challenges.
In the long run, the result is an incredibly useful tool for humanity. Tenev is certain that the outputs presented by Robinhood’s AI would be free of any hallucinations, this of course can be verifiable. Armed with this feature, Robinhood CEO is confident that Harmonic will be used to fulfil task that requires serves humanity.
In terms of operations and administration, Harmonic will operate separately from the Robinhood financial company.
Therefore, Stanford University graduate Tudor Achim will hold the position of Harmonic CEO. Tenev noted that more updates would be shared as the project progresses. Noteworthy, the launch of Harmonic is one of the milestones that Robinhood has recorded amidst its regulatory challenges with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Last week, the firm announced plans to acquire cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp. The acquisition is worth approximately $200 million.
