Early Bitcoin Heavyweight Correspondence

Back’s complete email history with Satoshi Nakamoto was reportedly entered in the court’s record earlier today. In the first email that was sent about four months before Bitcoin was officially launched, Blockstream CEO was seen discussing the flagship cryptocurrency with Nakamoto. Noteworthy, the email was sent from Satoshi Nakamoto to Back.

Satoshi Nakamoto was asking Back for the right citation for his paper which he plans to reference. The next email was Back’s response to Satoshi and here he pointed the latter to some other resource paper called “B-money” by Wei Dei. Dei is recognized for his work on digital cash and ended up being one of the most frequently cited individuals by Nakamoto.

There were three other emails exchanged between the duo and the last one was to inform Back of the formal launch of Bitcoin.

Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity has remained a mystery for more than a decade now but a close look at these emails suggests that Back may be familiar with the person behind the name. The Blockstream CEO has not made any statement to officially conclude his relationship with the pseudonymous Bitcoin creator but the community has their speculations.

False Satoshi Nakamoto Claims

In the last few years, many individuals have come out to claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Considering that there is not much information about him on the internet, no one has been able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. As Bitcoin celebrated 14 years in existence, Craig Wright re-echoed his claims to be behind the leading blockchain and flagship cryptocurrency.

However, his claim has always sparked controversy, skepticism, and scrutiny, earning him an investigation from the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA). Similarly, some reports surfaced at one time, saying that Hal Finney might be the face behind the pseudonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

Just like in Wright’s case, the speculation was countered, citing that Finney was completing a 10-mile race at a time when Satoshi Nakamoto was conducting transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain and responding to emails.

With the emails between the Blockstream CEO and Satoshi already in the custody of the court, Back may be in the right position to reveal the true identity of the Bitcoin creator.
