SIT Detains 8, Including 4 Cops, In $300 Mln India Crypto Scam

Continuing with the investigation into the multi-crore rupee cryptocurrency scam in Himachal Pradesh, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) detained 8 more accused, including 4 cops in the India crypto scam of over Rs 2,500 crore, equivalent to $300.45 million.

According to reports, the accused involved in the 2.5k crore crypto scam were arrested after aiding the continuous investigation into a massive cryptocurrency scam, which began in 2018.

Arrested accused include 4 police officials and 1 forest guard

In the biggest crypto scam in India, the Himachal Pradesh police constituted SIT detained police officials; Naresh Kumar from Hamirpur, Sunil Kumar, posted as Jail Warder at Bangarh jail, and Lady Constable Jyoti posted at Hamirpur.

Others are Balbir Singh, police personnel posted at Kanda Jail in Shimla, Ram Kumar Rana, forest guard from Sunjanpur Tihra, Kirshan Dutt from Hamirpur, Neel Dhiman from Baddi, and Gurdeep from Solan, Himachal Pradesh. 

With the new arrest, the tally of arrested people in the Rs 2,500 crore worth of crypto fraud is now at 18. Recently, the SIT conducted raids at multiple locations in Himachal Pradesh and arrested one person Abhishek, a resident of Una district. The SIT team led by Director in General of Police Abhishek Dullar confirmed Abhishek’s arrest who is also said to be the mastermind of the fraud, which scammed over 1 lakh people.

Arrested In 5-Day Police Remand, Further Investigation Underway

DIG Abhishek Dullar said they have taken all the eight newly arrested people into 5-days police custody for further investigation of the crypto scam in Himachal Pradesh.

During a media interaction, DIG said, they will continue their investigation and nab more accused involved in the multi-crore scam, which has shaken not only the people of Himachal Pradesh but the State Government too.

It is to be noted, that over 5,000 government employees, including police officials, have invested in the crypto scheme and lost their money. Besides, over 1 lakh people are victims of this huge fraud worth Rs 2,500 crores. Although the police are trying to recover the money of the people, the SIT said of the total scam, Rs 500 crores of people’s hard-earned money is unlikely to be recovered.

However, the Himachal Pradesh police said they are working with the Punjab Police, with an assurance of complete support from the Union Home Ministry, to nab the accused and punish them with strict action.

Meanwhile, the 2018 Himachal Pradesh cryptocurrency scam is no less than an eye-opener for all the investors and crypto traders in India. The concerned authority and police also requested people to be aware and conduct thorough research before investing in any company or platform for crypto.
