Trezor announces support for new coins & tokens

A popular hardware cryptocurrency wallet, Trezor just recently released the 1.6.2 version of Trezor One firmware. The latest version of the wallet has come up with some interesting updates for the crypto community.

In its official blog, the Trezor One announces the support for a number of cryptocurrencies and tokens viz. Lisk (LSK), Decred (DCR), Bitcoin Private (BTCP), Groestlcoin (GRS), Viacoin (VIA), Zcoin (XZC), Vertcoin (VTC), and Fujicoin (FJC). At the time of writing, the 24th largest cryptocurrency Lisk has been at $5.23 while one position below Decred is sitting at $69.22. At 49th rank, Bitcoin Private holds at $10.81 amidst the red market.

All of these coins are added into the firmware of the device that will gradually surface in Trezor Wallet but can be accessed through Electrum like third-party applications. However, Vertcoin is available in the wallet. It further mentions support to “EOS Classic, Ethereum Social, Ellaism, Callisto, EtherGem, Wanchain along with recognizing 500+ new Ethereum tokens” that aren’t available in the Trezor wallet yet.

The blog further details,

“These coins and tokens are generally accessible from third-party applications, developed by the coin developers, or MyEtherWallet/MyCrypto. They are not accessible from Trezor Wallet yet, but we are working on our own Ethereum wallet.”

A few other updates

The wallet also details about the upcoming support for recent Zcash hard fork Overwinter and Cashaddr of Bitcoin cash. After the network update of Zcash, Trezor firmware requires you to update it or you won’t be able to move your Zcash coins anywhere. From now, it will also use the new address format of the Bitcoin Cash.

Trezor also asks the users to be cautious and have the correct recovery seed. It clarifies “if your Trezor One device is currently running firmware version 1.6.1 and bootloader version 1.4.0, your device memory will be wiped after this update.”
