While it is being claimed that the Twitter account has been compromised, it appears that the account was almost immediately recovered from the hackers. The hackers had reportedly shared a phishing link in the tweet that talked about Consensys offering a commemorative NFT to celebrate “Proto-Danksharding” coming to Ethereum. PeckShieldAlert had notified that the Ethereum cofounder’s X account has been hacked, and that it carries a phishing link.
“It seems Vitalik Buterin Twitter account is hacked. And do *NOT* click the phishing link.”
The Buterin account hack comes in the context of several high profile crypto related account compromises in recent times. Earlier, in July 2023, the Twitter account belonging to Uniswap founder Hayden Adams has been compromised. With the account recovered, Buterin’s latest Twitter activity shows a blockchain privacy related paper he co-authored with Ameen Soleimani among others.
