Baidu, a Chinese tech giant specializing in internet and AI-related services, recently revealed a noteworthy milestone achievement for the firm as their Large Language Model (LLM), Ernie Bot, scaled new summits on Thursday. As the Chinese firm rolled out key advancements noted by the LLM’s community, the chatbot appears to have positioned itself next to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, unfolding as a critical player within the industry.
Intriguingly, since Ernie’s inception into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) in March 2023, the LLM emerged as one of OpenAI’s leading competitors, garnering significant attention globally. Moreover, with the firm’s latest advancements, Ernie is now embarking further with its venture into AI.
According to recent reports surfacing within the world of AI, the LLM Ernie’s user base recorded a colossal surge on Thursday, December 28. Notably, the ChatGPT-like Bot, Ernie, amassed over 100 million users today, as pointed out by Wang Haifeng, CTO at Baidu.
This comes following Ernie’s launch for the general public in August earlier this year.
Furthermore, analysts within the industry proclaimed that even though Baidu’s initial launch in March showcased an unfavorable response, the firm retained its worthy first-mover advantage despite markets being saturated with numerous AI-related players. In addition, with other Chinese tech companies emerging within the AI market, Baidu still manages to position itself at the list’s cork.

Intriguingly, the Ernie Bot soon unfolded as the talk of the town since it gained significant traction across the AI industry this year. Moreover, according to a recent report published by SuperCLUE, a platform ranking generative AI-powered chatbots, the Ernie Bot scored 79.02, leading the race within the Chinese market. However, it still scored ten points less than the latest version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, fueling further inferences for the Chinese LLM.
