Binance, the world’s largest exchange by trade volume, continues in efforts to expand its team despite the prevailing Crypto Winter. Most recently, the exchange added a former Brazilian Central Bank Governor to its team.

Henrique Meirelles will join the exchange as a member of its advisory board

Rio de Janeiro-based media outlet, O Globo uncovered the development Monday. According to the report, Binance has hired accomplished economist Henrique Meirelles. Meirelles is also a former President of the Central Bank of Brazil. Meirelles will be joining the Binance team as a member of the firm’s advisory board.

In a recently-released statement corroborating the report, the firm said,

Binance confirms the participation of Henrique Meirelles in the company’s new global advisory board and reports that it will release more details about this initiative soon.

Henrique Meirelles attained the position of president of Central Bank of Brazil in 2003. The 77-year-old economist retained the position till 2011. Meirelles also served as the Brazilian Minister of Finance under the presidency of Michel Temer. Besides his political positions, Meirelles is also the chairman of the board of directors of Brazilian investment company J&F Investmentos SA.

The Crypto Winter appears to have little effect on Binance

An inclusion of such a reputable personality patently underscores the company’s prominence in the global scene. Consequently, being a part of the Binance team is gradually becoming an enviable accomplishment. Taking to Twitter last month, Binance CEO CZ mentioned that there are thousands of fake Binance employee profiles on LinkedIn.

According to CZ, only 50 out of a whopping 7,000 individuals claiming to be part of the Binance team are actually part of the firm’s staff. CZ used the opportunity to suggest that LinkedIn incorporate a feature to enable companies verify employment claims.

While other firms are laying off workers, Binance appears unfazed by the effects of the Crypto Winter. In June when the Winter was at its coldest, CZ noted that the exchange is looking to leverage the Crypto Winter. Co-founder of Binance Yi He mentioned that the firm has up to 2,000 vacancies, and are looking to add to the team.
