Philips Sport Vereniging (PSV) has signed a partnership agreement with the local crypto trading platform, Anycoin Direct, becoming the first major football club in Europe to have the entire sponsorship deal paid in Bitcoin. Anycoin Direct and PSV Eindhoven partnership agreement extend for the next two seasons with the aim to increase crypto awareness across Europe.

PSV stated its reason for choosing a local trading platform over a global firm as reliability in the Eindhoven area. The club highlighted that Anycoin Direct is PSV’s path to international success while staying connected to its local roots.

The club emphasized that the entire sponsorship amount will be paid in Bitcoin. This marks a milestone in EU’s football history, as PSV becomes the first football club in the EU to receive the full sponsorship amount in cryptocurrency. The Commercial Director at PSV, Frans Janssen shared that right after signing the deal, the club created necessary wallets to facilitate the crypto payments as mentioned in the partnership.

“The possibilities and the future that the world of cryptocurrency offers is very promising. As a club in the heart of the Brainport region, we are always innovating, cryptocurrency fits well into this picture.”, said Frans Janssen, Commercial Director PSV.

PSV joins the league of football-crypto partnerships

PSV Eindhoven is a sports club from Eindhoven, Netherlands, that is popular as a loyal supporter in the crypto community. Earlier this year the top-tier football club launched its first Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection, commemorating its Europe cup 1 final victory on Benfica.

Along with PSV, the football arena has seen several crypto partnerships this year. The sports market has begun crypto partnerships and NFT launches looking at the bullish trendline. During the month of March, Manchester City joined the NFT Premier League Club by launching fan tokens. Manchester City partnered with Socios platform to develop exclusive fan tokens for the football club. These tokens could be traded against the native token Chiliz ($CHZ).
