Albania’s Crypto Push

Edi Rama, the prime minister of Albania, met with Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, in 2017 to talk about the possibilities of blockchain technology in Albania. Mr. Rama also travelled to Malta for the Blockchain Summit, where he spoke about the need for Albania to draw in blockchain companies.

Additionally, the Albanian government has taken steps to foster an environment that is welcoming to blockchain and cryptocurrency businesses. In 2018, the nation’s legislature passed a law recognizing cryptocurrency as a legal tender and with this action, Albania made a clear statement to the blockchain industry that it was open for business.
