zkSync Era v24 Upgrade Goes Live on Mainnet
Highlights
- zkSync Era v24 upgrade enhances device security with P256Verify.
- New zkSync Bridgehub boosts ZK Stack chain interoperability.
- Beta Node release simplifies zkSync setup, broadens developer access.
The latest software release of the zkSync Era, the v24 upgrade, has been successfully released on the mainnet.
This upgrade brings in several new features that are meant to improve the aspects of security and functionality for the Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution.
zkSync Era v24 Mainnet Launch
The successful deployment of the v24 upgrade on June 7 can be considered as a major achievement of zkSync Era. Earlier, the developers had stated that all new features have been thoroughly checked within the framework of a comprehensive audit.
Significantly, the upgrade also entails the addition of precompile P256Verify. This new addition enhances the ability to sign transactions on devices like Apple’s Secure Enclave, Webauthn, and Android Keychain.

There is also the zkSync Bridgehub, which is another important feature of the zkSync ecosystem that seeks to help the integration of ZK Stack chains. This development sets the stage for a more integrated and seamless movement of users and liquidity across various platforms.
Additionally, the upgrade led to the integration of Validium mode, which includes a custom Data Availability (DA) layer and a new base token on ZK Stack blockchains.
Enhancements and Governance Transition
As a part of the v24 deployment, zkSync Era has also started the process of decentralization of its governance. The core development team has promised that this will be the last upgrade it will perform before it hands over governance to the community by June this year. This move is a significant step towards encouraging a more open and community-oriented approach to development.
In this release, the developers have fixed some of the technical problems that were discovered during the end-to-end testing of the v24 protocol on the testnet. These comprised changes to zkSync’s circuit logic, VM logic, testing infrastructure, and release pipeline which has been axed to make sure that the switchover to the mainuided setup happens seamlessly.
Developer Experience and Node Improvements
Concurrently, zkSync Era has released the Beta version of its Node to enhance the developer’s interface. This release greatly enhances the ease of getting a node up and running, and the resources needed to do so, thus opening up the possibility for more developers.
The Beta version has a one-line Docker setup and the synchronization from snapshots to keep in pace with the Main Node is possible. These improvements are meant to optimize developers’ workflows and accommodate the expansion of the zkSync community.
