Elon Musk Lauds Grok AI Launch In Europe But There’s A Catch

Highlights
- Elon Musk exuded optimism as Grok made its Europe debut.
- Currently, only Premium and Premium+ users of Grok can use the chatbot in the region.
- Last month, Musk teased the Europe expansion of Grok in a post on X.
Elon Musk’s ambitious venture, xAI, has officially launched its AI chatbot, Grok, in Europe. In a recent announcement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk expressed his enthusiasm regarding the announcement. However, Grok AI isn’t accessible to all users in Europe.
Elon Musk Unveils Grok AI’s Europe Debut
In a post on X, Musk unveiled the update, stating, “Grok now available in Europe.” This new AI chatbot aims to provide users with real-time understanding of current events and can even tackle what the team describes as “spicy questions.”
Grok AI is designed to serve as a personal search assistant, enhancing the user experience by offering contextual insights and timely information. Moreover, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, echoed Musk’s excitement. She wrote, “Europe meet GROK — your new personal AI search assistant!” This rollout marks a significant milestone for xAI, as it expands its innovative technology beyond the U.S. market.
However, there’s a notable limitation to this launch. Access to Grok AI will be restricted to Premium and Premium+ subscribers of X. While this exclusivity aligns with Musk’s strategy to add value to the platform’s paid tiers, it also means that the advanced capabilities of Grok AI will not be available to the broader user base. This has sparked discussions among users about the accessibility and inclusivity of cutting-edge AI tools.
Whilst, the Global Government Affairs Team of X emphasized their excitement about this launch. They noted, “We are excited to bring Grok to Europe! Today we are beginning to roll out access to Grok’s AI search assistant feature to X Premium subscribers.” They further detailed that, following the conclusion of the European Elections, the rollout would extend to include contextualized trends for all users.

Stepping Stone To Success
Earlier, in April 2024, Musk announced his plans to pursue European Union authorization for Grok AI. In response to an inquiry about the availability of Grok in Europe, Musk mentioned, “We’re waiting for EU approval.” Meanwhile, Grok AI was launched in India and 46 other nations, including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and New Zealand.
The Europe expansion marks a pivotal move in Musk’s AI strategy, reflecting his ambition to broaden Grok’s reach into new markets and serve a more diverse user base. Nonetheless, given the European Union’s rigorous regulations, the approval process for Grok AI remained uncertain for a while. However, the latest update underscores a massive milestone.
